Clockers is a 1992 novel by American author Richard Price. The book takes place in the fictitious city of Dempsey (based on Newark and Jersey City) in New Jersey. It centers on the workings of a local drug gang and the dynamics between the drug dealers, the police and the community. In 1995, director Spike Lee adapted the story for the film Clockers. The book served as an inspiration for the hit drama The Wire.
